Maybe I live in a certain kind of bubble, but I always thought that Roam Research was way bigger than Obsidian in terms of userbase. Little bit of research today indicates that maybe Obsidian is bigger, and that Roam has been on the decline since a surge in early pandemic.
Here's a Google Trends report going back 5 years:

But there are problems with Google's ontology here — Obsidian.md wasn't founded until the pandemic in 2020, and if you set the window back to 2004, whatever "software" they're counting was already popular back then:

But anecdotally, it does seem like Obsidian has continued to grow in popularity and I don’t hear much about Roam anymore. A google turns up anecdotal stuff like this [https://www.reddit.com/r/RoamResearch/comments/y9whyo/roam_or_obsidian/](https://www.reddit.com/r/RoamResearch/comments/y9whyo/roam_or_obsidian/)
> Obsidian is light years better. It’s not even remotely close. I’m a Roam believer subscriber, but after the mobile app for Roam came out, and I realized it was their horrendous web app wrapped in some IOS framing, I switched to Obsidian.

Anyway. Here's Notion for comparison:
